Who we are
Return My Vote (RMV) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our website is https://returnmyvote.org. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site and what we do with it.
What we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us:
- Consultation and contact forms. When you request a voting rights consultation or send us a message, we collect the information you submit (typically name, email address, phone number, and the details of your situation). Forms are processed through Gravity Forms.
- Text messaging. If you give us a mobile number and agree to be contacted by text, we store that number and your consent, so that we can reply to you and so that we can honor an opt-out if you send us one.
- Newsletter signups. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. We use The Newsletter Plugin to manage subscriptions.
- Appointment scheduling. If you book a meeting through our Calendly link, Calendly collects the information you provide (typically name, email, and any meeting notes) and shares it with us.
- Donations. Donations are processed by PayPal. We do not see or store your full payment-card information. PayPal shares transaction confirmations with us, which can include your name, email, and donation amount.
- Basic site analytics. Our hosting provider, WordPress.com, collects standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and traffic-volume measurement.
How we use it
We use the information you provide to respond to your request, schedule consultations, send updates you have asked for, process and acknowledge donations, and keep the site running and secure. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for marketing.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers we use to operate the site and communicate with you: Gravity Forms, The Newsletter Plugin, Calendly, PayPal, Telzio (our telephone and text messaging provider), and WordPress.com / Automattic. Each of these providers has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle the data they process for us. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Text messages (SMS)
If you give us your mobile number, we may contact you by text message about your consultation — to confirm we received your request, to ask a follow-up question, or to send you the result of your eligibility check. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number or your SMS consent with anyone else, for any purpose. Mobile opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. Your number is used only by Return My Vote, to communicate with you about the help you asked us for.
You can stop the messages at any time by replying STOP to any text from us. We will stop immediately, and we will not text you again unless you ask us to. Reply HELP to any message, or call or text (205) 433-7084, if you need assistance.
Because our messages may concern your criminal record and your voting eligibility, we keep them brief and we do not put conviction details in a text message. Anything specific is discussed by phone or in a consultation.
How long we keep it
We keep consultation records as long as needed to assist you, and afterward only as long as needed for our internal record-keeping. Newsletter signups are kept until you unsubscribe. Donation records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes. If you opt out of text messages, we keep a permanent record of that opt-out, so that it is not undone if your number appears on a later list.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP. You can ask us to confirm what information we have about you, correct it, or delete it. To make any of these requests, email rcfording@return-my-vote.org.
Cookies
The site uses cookies that are necessary for basic functions (such as remembering form state) and may use cookies set by the third-party services listed above. You can clear or block cookies in your browser; doing so may affect how some pages work.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the site.
